Suffolk County Council

The challenge

Suffolk County Council were seeking a skilled partner to assist them in implementing a new enterprise Directory Service. This directory would provide efficient management of their significant geographically dispersed resources.

As an authoritative Council directory, with elements published externally to the public, it would enable HR to seamlessly provision and decommission access to infrastructure IT services to improve IT administration efficiency, system security and staff productivity.

The solution

NEC successfully produced an initial pilot solution, leading to deployment of a directory holding over 18,000 objects that represented 8,000 users. This single, authoritative directory enabled the HR staff to automatically create, modify and delete user information across the email system, telephone switch board, and employee contact directory. It also became the precursor to limited self-administration of employee personal information to ensure its accuracy at all times.

Why NEC ?

Suffolk County Council was looking for an experienced supplier to provide an enterprise Directory Service. Suffolk required on-site technical support to finalise the design and select the “best fit” product(s); it also required an organisation capable of supporting the installation and post implementation processes.

Suffolk County Council decided that NEC, as a leading supplier of the directory and integration technologies used, were in the best position to offer a partnership style of working arrangement for this leading edge and innovative solution. <NEXT>
